The National Day Parade in Singapore, celebrating the island nation’s independence on the 9th of August every year has always been a much anticipated fare, bringing together people from all walks of life. The 2015 edition of the event was of special significance, being the 50th year of Singapore’s independence. As expected, the crowd turnout was the highest.
Amidst the celebrations, DataSpark carefully monitored the movement of the crowd at the viewing areas. Their GeoAnalytics software produced “near” real-time estimates of where and when the crowd reached peak volumes. These insights not only shed light on crowd behaviour during the day last year, but also provide insights for organisers to manage crowds better for future large-scale events.
